Is it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?

and a repair shop buys a brand new one directly from a dealer and charges the customer about twice as much? If so, why?Is it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?
You can get brand new aftermarket brand or refurbished alternators for most vehicles from parts stores. Independent shops typically will use reman parts but may give you the option or you can request to go one way or the other. For some applications you may only be able to find new dealer-sources parts.

Independent shops do get a discount over retail whether buying from a parts store or dealer but the discounts are often small. What kind of markup the shop charges is dependent on the shop.
Most shops carry new and reman alternators at different pricesIs it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?
Yes, unless you specify you want a new one. Remans are just as good as new ones.
i bought an alternator from an auto parts store that was remanufactured. it turned out to be broken. so i had to go back and exchange for another remanufactured one. this one also turned out to be broken. the third time i finally got one that worked.

unless you specify new, it will be remanufactured. be careful. Is it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?
Yes, most alternators from a parts store are remanufactured. Most repair shops don't buy from the dealer. Many times they get their parts from the same place you do.
It all depends on what you want, you can get a rebuilt or a brand new one depending on what you specify to the mechanic.
