1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store & they checked code which said?

1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store %26amp; they checked code which said that my #3 cylinder wasn't firing but the code reader didn't specify why. I imagine Ill need to check the coil, fuel injector %26amp; wires... I dont know how to "check" the coil, though. Any info?1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. It is time to change all the spark plugs and all the wires at the same time. If a distributor is fitted, then change that, too. Be safe, and not stranded.

Best wishes.

It's most likely a bad coil, fords get them all the time. Look up how to do the saltwater test, good home mechanic test.

It could also be a bad plug or wire or something a lot more severe, like no compression in that cylinder, that could be about half a dozen things by itself.1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store %26amp; they checked code which said?
The coil is working fine. Or all cylinders would not be firing. Check the spark plug wire it could be the problem or the spark plug. Also if it is fuel injected you could have a fouled injector.

Whoever gave dwayne a thumbs down was wrong. He is correct for the most part.
i guess to check the could you could pull the plug off the #3 cylinder see if it has spark. to do this see if the plug jumps to ground1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store %26amp; they checked code which said?
a cylinder mis fire is caused by a bad plug or plug wire do a good tune up on it. that should fix it.
