And how do they work. My question is, when you have it hooked up to your battery is it charging your car battery or is it just helping start the car as a power source?Do those portable automotive jump starters that you get at the auto parts store really work?
Yes, they do work. I have used one. It's basically a substitute for getting someone else to help you jump start your battery from their car. It's like having an extra car battery. But it works better on smaller cars than big vans and SUVs -- they need heavier duty stuff than usually come with your average portable.



Some have additional charging capability, but not all of them do.



It should be noted that your car battery has to have a little bit of charge in it in order to work. Most won't help start a completely dead battery or one that has so little charge in it that it might as well be dead.

Yes they really work. I used them all the time while working for a towing company. They charge and assist the existing vehicle battery to start the car. You can also use the jumper box to help you get somewhere if your vehicle's alternator quits working; just attach to your vehicle battery and secure the jumper box and you can drive it farther till you are able to get your car fixed.



I keep one in my truck all the time. I use it to power my heavy duty 12V air compressor and I can also use it to power my winch (I have a Warn electric 8000lb winch on a reciever mount so I can use my jumper box to run the winch if I use it on the back of my truck or on somebody elses truck)

yes they really work its not really charging your battery its giving it a boost. They are the best accesory you could buy for your car, get one with all the bells and whistles like a air compressor on it a 12 v port so you can plur in cell phone just in case you need a charge and car will not start or dead car battery or winter time etc
