I've always been really into cars and I want to try and get a job at an auto parts store like Autozone or somewhere like that.. Although, I don't want to look stupid if someone comes in asking me to do something that I don't know how to do. I know a good bit of things about cars just not a whole lot. I've seen girls working at auto parts stores before, and I've never seen them have to do a lot of things. Does anyone know what exactly they look for when they hire people??Auto parts store experts please!!?
There going to look for you expertise in car parts sales and mechanical ability. There going to want someone who has some kind of knowledge about cars. You can always brush up on how to do certain things along with getting more knowledge on diagnosing problems. Your there to help them find the right part along with helping them diagnose the problem because a lot of people don't have the money to pay for a mechanic to diagnose a car.Auto parts store experts please!!?
Your knowledge of cars will help alot.

Where can I find a 2000 Chevy Metro tie rod , it seems that there is not an auto parts store?
out there, even online, that carries it!Where can I find a 2000 Chevy Metro tie rod , it seems that there is not an auto parts store?
Is it an inner or an outer?? If you cant find one at your local parts place just go to a GM dealer sometimes on front end parts the dealer can actually be less expensive. Good Luck!!
contact you local salvage yard and see if they can't locate one.Where can I find a 2000 Chevy Metro tie rod , it seems that there is not an auto parts store?
I thought that the metro was phased out before 2000..
Napa doesn't carry it, Sorry to say, may have to hit up the dealership. Also, a word of advice, you may not want to buy steering, or alignment parts from a junkyard. Its probably why they are there in the first place. Nothing much is guaranteed there.Where can I find a 2000 Chevy Metro tie rod , it seems that there is not an auto parts store?
Try Napa. Or Pep Boys.
Try doing a web search under collison parts. Tthat might helptravel trailers

Is there an online Auto Body Parts store that will paint the parts they sell?
Im looking for a Tacoma front bumper but all the ones I found are black or primer grey. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place that will paint the parts they sell. Thank youIs there an online Auto Body Parts store that will paint the parts they sell?
No, for the simple reason that it's impossible to ship it without it getting damaged, and the cost of the paint and painting would triple the price of the parts. Is there an online Auto Body Parts store that will paint the parts they sell?
Bodyshops may do that if they have a mess of parts lying around but otherwise that is why you can buy spray bombs, or a paint brush and can of paint.DIY
How many truck colors are there for Tacoma? So that is "why" it is black(as black goes with everything - or primer grey in case you want to get it painted the same color as your vehicle. Is there an online Auto Body Parts store that will paint the parts they sell?
i am not sure of an actual parts dept. that will sell painted but i do know what some EBAY sellers will sell new painted parts. you could check that but also be aware that buying painted will cost more than primer or black.

Are car care accessories, oil, coolant, etc. gonna be more expensive at a regular store or auto parts store?
By a regular store, I could mean a grocery store that also has a Pharmacy and office supplies, car stuff, magazines, etc., or a gas station, or whatever. By an auto parts store, I don't mean one that sells just auto parts. The ones I've been to sell everything car-related. What I'm getting at here is, is a place that sells all car stuff gonna charge you more cuz that's where you'd go to get everything you need for your car or would a regular store charge you more cuz that's not their most popular items? Are car care accessories, oil, coolant, etc. gonna be more expensive at a regular store or auto parts store?
It depends on which store you go to. A convenience store.. DEFINITELY. Wal-Mart usually runs about the same as the auto part stores. It depends on which store you go to. WalGreens usually runs higher. I would suggest a WalMart or the parts store. Parts stores usually beat competitor's prices too! Try that out. You could even call your local stores and do a price check on an item at each store.
Well if I understand your question will buying car parts at say a auto parts store cost more then say a place like wal-mart.
In Most cases yes. however since most polish and antifreeze and other products that depend on the oil industry yes. It seems that the oil company's can just about charge what thy want for anything mad from oil and its by products.
Since that hurricane that just about wiped out most of the off shore oil platforms oil and its byproducts are going up.
If say you buy auto products from wal-mart and such places buy in quantity. The more thy buy the cheaper the cost.
Sure auto parts charge more for parts thy don't have the quantity of story's like the "super stores" thy have to charge a little more.
Hope this answers your question and thanks for the question. Are car care accessories, oil, coolant, etc. gonna be more expensive at a regular store or auto parts store?
walmart would be most cheap...and then places like autozone...oreilly autoparts.... but not grocery stores...or drug stores. gas stations have a high mark up on stuff they sell anyway, so definitely not those either.
I find it varies upon items, usually it seems the auto part store a little higher on car preventive maintenance. Are car care accessories, oil, coolant, etc. gonna be more expensive at a regular store or auto parts store?
I've seen similar prices at both, auto stores will have more sales on stuff like oil and filters.

I know for a fact that a quart of oil is cheaper at an auto parts store; Auto Zone, Pep Boys than at a gas station and probably the other places you mentioned as well. Plus you have more options for all those products at the auto parts store.
So, to narrow it down, a regular store can and will charge more because if you're buying it there, it is most likely something you need right then and you pretty much have to get it. You know, the core pricniple of economics; supply and demand.
"a regular store charge you more cuz that's not their most popular items?"
There's your answer right there! Grocery stores usually charge more and have a limited selection. The exception is some place like Wal-Mart, there oil is cheap although the price has gone up recently. So I'd say your best bet is with auto parts stores. Are car care accessories, oil, coolant, etc. gonna be more expensive at a regular store or auto parts store?
i would recommend going to a car store. their products should be more higher quality and the people working in the store would know more about what you want to buy. even if they are more expensive, i think it would be worth going to the car store.
CHain stores seem to have lower prices than like a single auto parts store. best prices will be at target, kmart or walmart, they can buy that same oil or antifreeze in such huge quantities, they can sell it for less. Are car care accessories, oil, coolant, etc. gonna be more expensive at a regular store or auto parts store?
Higher price doesn't always mean better quality... Take wal mart for example... same big jug of mobil one at advance for 25 bucks.... and at wally world its 20.... and not always the autoparts stores know they're stuff.... napa would be a exception.... they usually know they're stuff...

Just wondering I was told there was but the person who told me couldn't remember which one. I need the tool to change my ball jointsIs there a national auto parts store that rents tools?
Auto Zone does. That's the only one I can think of off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure I've seen other places that will too. Maybe the others aren't national, but I'm sure Auto Zone does.

What does a resonator do on a 2001 grand am and can you buy one at the local auto parts store?
A resonator helps quiet noise caused by airflow by forcing it through some baffles and causing the sound waves to form a destructive pattern of waves.
You can get one at your local O'Reilly Auto Parts store or online:

Can i buy antifreeze for vw at a auto parts store besides the car dealer?
The so-called "universal" or "all" anti-freeze/summer coolant is not a good thing to mix with the VW/Audi coolant. Late model VW's use G12++ coolant, which supercedes the previous G12 coolant.
G12++ can be mixed with G12, I'm not 100% certain if it can mix with the old VW "blue" for older cars.
You can purchase the G12++ at some imported parts (spares) store that specialize in European or esp. German imports. Some websites sell imported coolant that is formulated to meet either G12 or G12++ specs.
If your car requires G12, don't mix it with something else other than G12 or G12++. You could an expensive repair as history has shown that other coolants don't mix. On some bogs, people claim that usage of the .wrong coolant can cause the mixture to jell, I've never seen that, but I suppose its possible.
What I can confirm is that overheating has happened when the G12/G12++ is mixed with the wrong stuff. So, do your self a favour and buy the right stuff either from a dealership, parts specialist, or on the web at sites like: www.blauparts.com or www.germanautoparts.com.
By the way, you do know that the power steering and transmission fluids for most late model VW is also special and not easily found, don't you? I've dealt with more failures to steering racks because people added the wrong fluid time and time again. Always carry extra power steering fluid with you along with the coolant and trans fluid in case you need a top off. This is especially important if you use a quick lube place; more wrong fluids have been added by quick lube places because they don't know that cars use special fluids. Just a word to the wise. You want avoid a $1000 steering rack replacement!
Hope this helps, a car nut.Can i buy antifreeze for vw at a auto parts store besides the car dealer?
Yes, you can. In fact, avoid buying things from the dealership because they usually charge too much. A good brand of antifreeze is Zerex. I will post some links below so that you know what type to use. If your car has never had the coolant flushed, you should flush the radiator as well.
"a car nut" is dead on.
If you're doing a full flush and will be filling it ONLY with some Prestone "All vehicle" stuff your car would probably be fine, but mixing the factory stuff and junk aftermarket stuff can cause some real nightmares. Can i buy antifreeze for vw at a auto parts store besides the car dealer?
Get the anti-freeze that said 'For ALL vehicles'. Old anti-freeze formula are not recommended for modern VW. They cost about the same so get the 'ALL'.
ROFL....my first thought was that VWs do not use anti-freeze as their engines are air cooled.
Kind of shows you how old I am......LOL...

What's the best business structure for auto parts store?
LLC, INC, ...?
Thank youWhat's the best business structure for auto parts store?
LLC. It gives your personal assets the same protection as a corporation, but is easier to setup. What's the best business structure for auto parts store?
A corporation, chartered by the state in which it is headquartered, is considered by law to be a unique entity, separate and apart from those who own it. A corporation can be
taxed; it can be sued; it can enter into contractual agreements. The owners of a corporation are its shareholders. The shareholders elect a board of directors to oversee the major policies and decisions. The corporation has a life of its own and does not dissolve when ownership changes.
The LLC is a hybrid business structure now permissible in most states. Its designed to provide the limited liability features of a corporation and the tax efficiencies and operational flexibility of a partnership. Formation is more complex and formal than that of a general partnership. The owners are members, and the duration of the LLC is usually determined when the organization papers are filed. LLC's must not have more than two of the four characteristics that define corporations: Limited liability to the extent of assets; continuity of life; centralization of management; and free transferability of ownership interests. Owners have limited personal liability for business debts even if they participate in management. Profit and loss can be allocated differently than ownership interests. IRS rules now allow LLCs to choose between being taxed as partnership or corporation.
Take into account the following when deciding business formation:
Your vision regarding the size and nature of your business.
The level of control you wish to have.
The level of "structure" you are willing to deal with.
The business's vulnerability to lawsuits.
Tax implications of the different ownership structures.
Expected profit (or loss) of the business.
Whether or not you need to re-invest earnings into the business.
Your need for access to cash out of the business for yourself.
Advantages of an LLC :
Has no limit to the number of owners
Owners can report profit and loss on their individual tax returns
Not required to hold annual meetings or record minutes
Advantages of a Corporation:
May issue shares of stock to attract investors
Corporate income splitting may help lower overall tax liability
Disadvantages of an LLC:
Cannot engage in corporate income splitting to lower tax liability
Cannot issue stock
Disadvantages of a Corporation:
Double taxation of corporate profits and shareholder dividends
Must hold annual meetings and record minutes
S Corporations have restrictions on number of owners

Was in an auto parts store today and thy said it was ok to mix synthetic oil with regular oil?
Now I would like all you mechanics. What do you think
Ok or not okWas in an auto parts store today and thy said it was ok to mix synthetic oil with regular oil?
I can't understand why so many people want to put absolute confidence it whatever "THEY" say, when "THEY" can't even be identified. Or if you feel safe following "Their" advice, go for it. Or better yet, If you're willing to trust the mechanical needs of your automobile to typed messages on the internet, more power to you. Personally I'd take my car to my mechanic and have my oil changed out for fear of all the unknowns that could possibly happen from blending oil and synthetics. Best of luck to you and your car with your decision.
It's okay, but not really suggested. Because if you have synthetic oil in car, then adding regular oil with thicken it up and make it loose some of its special synthetic lubricating ability.
It's worse to mix oil weights (20W50, 10W30, etc). Engines nowadays are very specific. Their tolerances are marginal, meaning the engines are made so that there's little room for mistakes or changes. If an engine is made to use only 20W50, then that's what you should use. If you use a different oil, the motor will run, but not to the best as it was designed.
In old days, 50 years ago, cars weren't built so precisely. So you could mix oil weights with no problem. But modern cars are much more needing specific oil weights.
Now, if you've got regular oil in car and add some synthetic oil, as long as it's same weight, then that helps the regular oil a little bit, just a little bit, by thinning it so it moves easier in motor.
But it's just better to keep same kind of oil in engine and not mix oils or weights. YOu can mix brands, but even then, it changes the oil that was originally in the motor. I have found that Castrol regular oil works great for my old car, even gives me couple extra mpg. I used to use Walmart brand oil and it was okay, but Catrol works great in my car. Now, if I put a qt of the walmart oil in all my castrol oil, it'd not get me as good of performance if I had only Castrol oil in it.
It's just better for the machine if you kept the oil the same. Whether different kind, weight, or brand.
But yes, you can add synthetic with regular oil.Was in an auto parts store today and thy said it was ok to mix synthetic oil with regular oil?
Yes, they are fine to mix. There is no big advantage to mixing but no harm either.
All modern motor oils are cross compatible. You can safely mix synthetic with conventional, mix brands, and mix grades (5W-30 with a 10W-40, for example). There is no logical reason to do that but if you are just topping off your oil and need to use whatever, that's fine. Stick with the good brand name oils and you won't have a problem.
I only put synthetic oil in my truck. I was told keep it synthetic or regular. Don't mix.Was in an auto parts store today and thy said it was ok to mix synthetic oil with regular oil?
I would say that 1qt regular oil to 4qts of syntec would be ok but if I was doing an oil change I would try to stay with
Only one kind of oil.
You can buy synthetic blend so why would it not be ok the mix.......md
Here is a total news flash. Today, all IMPORTANT oils are car specific. If you READ the labels, on the back it will tell you which cars the oil was designed for. For example, oil for VW requires oil that meets specification 502/505. Oil for Asian cars must meet JASO specs. If the oil is for GM, it will say so ON THE BACK of the container. SEE??? Chrysler and Honda, in general, use the same oil "qualities". Get it??? by the way, it IS ok to mix regular with synthetic. My advice, though, is to stick with 100% synthetic since it will NOT make sludge or cause lubrication issues later on. Regular oils ALWAYS do! GET SMART, and read the LABELS!!!!

Was I wrong to ask to speak with a Man at the auto parts store?
The woman behind the counter kinda took offense to it, but I don't care, I wanted someone that knew what they were talking about. Was I wrong to ask to speak with a Man at the auto parts store?
You're begging to be beaten, aren't you? ; )
No worries, though. I wouldn't ask a man what foundation would work best with my skin, or what color looks best on me. See what I'm getting at?
Yes it was rude.... If you were at a national chain auto parts store ( ie Pepboys/ Autozone) I can assure that even the males have NO clue about cars. They just punch your car info into a computer and then get your part off the shelf.
If you wanted real advice try going to a locally owned shop... There you will find skilled help...Sadly most will be male though. Was I wrong to ask to speak with a Man at the auto parts store?
well. yes. the proper thing would have been to approach the person who was immediately available (key word here being PERSON). but i think showing concern and asking if your actions were appropriate is a step in the right direction. ask the woman for help next time, and if she's not helpful, ask if she can find somebody who can help you.
i think that is a little sexist yes
i could see how she is offended.
just because she is a woman dont assume she knows nothing about cars
hello, didnt u see "my cousin vinny"? marisa tomei was a car geniusWas I wrong to ask to speak with a Man at the auto parts store?
Yes, I would say so.
You are NOT allowed to talk!
Go back to the box now!
You shouldn't have asked for a man, but rather someone that knew what they were talking about.
I've been to many places that are usually "gender-specific" and regardless of anything, if they don't know what they're doing, they don't know what they're doing... however it WAS insulting to ask for a MAN rather than maybe for her MANAGER.
If you started out speaking with the woman, or over heard her telling someone else the wrong info, then it is absolutely ok to talk to someone else there. Just don't assume because the person is male that they know a damn thing about cars.
I used to work at an auto store %26amp; I knew more than some of the men.
You are really looking to get your @ss kicked tonight aren't you??? Where's that whip? It's around here somewhere... Oh wait, I think cowgirl took that with her when she left, what kinda bad thing should Dizzy Lizzy have? Gimme some ideas here...
Hey, I had a customer service job once, this old lady called in, I answered the phone and right off SHE asked for a man! Now that's wrong, if a woman can't even trust that another woman can help her, she's got issues!
Did it occur to you that a woman might know what she was talking about or that not all men understand cars?
It would be best to assume that anyone employed by the store has some knowledge about what they sell. I'm not surprised she was offended by your attitude.
I know a woman that rebuilt her cars engine and does tune UPS and the guys ask her questions about their engines. I know some guys that can't change a tire!
Did you jump to the conclusion that just because she is a woman she can't know anything about auto parts. Some women know more about auto parts than some men. There are even women race cars drivers.
Besides I know more about cars than my husband. LOL And I have owned some fast cars.
You should ask why the auto parts stores, auto shows and motorcycle dealers all use sexy, busty women to sell their products. The answer is to pull in sexist guys like you.
If she couldn't help you, then you weren't wrong to ask for SOMEONE else, but you were wrong to assume it had something to do with her gender, and that another male employee would know better what you needed than another female. Where have you been for the past few decades?
i think you can speak to whom ever you want as long as you weren't rude.
I don't blame you for 1 second!!! I would want to talk to a man too...but they never want to dumb it down to a level I can understand........thank god for boyfriends and dads that will help a girl out.

How much would the engine cost new from a Houston Area Auto Parts Store?
The vehicle is a 1991 Chevrolet Truck S10 Blazer 2WD 4.3L TBI 6 cylinderHow much would the engine cost new from a Houston Area Auto Parts Store?
??????? Why don't you call the "Houston Area Auto Parts Store" for the exact price instead of asking us to guess?????????
BTW, the engine from an auto parts store is remanufactured or rebuilt,,,,,not new. New engines are availble from the dealer.
Your best bet is to pull your motor and have it rebuilt, save a few hundred bucks. How much would the engine cost new from a Houston Area Auto Parts Store?
Call around and find out. Ask for a new and a rebuild motor price. Since it is a 91 it will be hard to find a new motor. If you are really hurting for money you can look in the paper or Craigslist and find a vehicle in the same year range and pull the motor out of a running vehicle that someone is parting out. The problem with that is that you are taking a chance on how long the motor will last. Sometimes you get lucky and find a good motor that way. Come to think of it AutoZone has pretty good prices on a partial motor. How much would the engine cost new from a Houston Area Auto Parts Store?

Men, what is so exciting about a hardware and/or auto parts store?
Some men act like they've died and gone to heaven when they step thru the doors. What's so thrilling in there?Men, what is so exciting about a hardware and/or auto parts store?
It's a GUY thing. LIke with women who go into clothing stores...but never buy anything.
I went in to Home Depot yesterday afternoon for 4 things...bought 2 more and walked down EVERY isle looking at and touching things. I was in there almost an hour. Bought $77 worth of 'stuff' and got a $7.70 discount (retired military). Plus, because I bought a big bottle of Roundup, I got an $8 bottle for free. Also, I got a bottle of Crabgrass Killer for 25åž„ because the cap was broken (it was still sealed).
It's a GUY thing.
Well, I'm not a man, but was married to a builder/mechanic/racecar driver once. I would rather be in a hardware/auto parts store than in Macy's with a million bucks to spend. Tools, lumber, gadgets, shelves, all that stuff is fascinating. The smell of oil, seeing batteries, wrenches, tires, wheels etc., is just a good feeling for me. I know how strange this sounds, the men in white coats will be coming for me, but I was around all this for many years so these stores are just a pleasant place to be for me.Men, what is so exciting about a hardware and/or auto parts store?
Step into my man cave/shop (after I get it all sorted out) and you will have your answer. Wrenching and building is half the joy of life. What we build is an extension of ourselves and the stores you mentioned are where we find what we need to do that. Add the camaraderie of like minded people and only woman who understand, and it's like a little piece of heaven. You like to hot rod in a cool car. Imagine the joy if you had built that car into what it is. There's not much besides family that can make your heart race more than than coaxing that engine you just built, to life for the first time and taking that car you've been building for several years, out for that first ride. Tach that baby up, hear the roar of that engine, as the tires light up and your cruisin' in style, in a masterpiece you built with your own two hands. It's almost as good as sex.
Our local Ace Hardware store is kind of like a meeting place for those of us in the neighborhood who enjoy the fun of making our own repairs. As far as auto parts stores I do not like them. These stores sell parts and products that have the durability of a Yugo.
For real auto parts give me my favorite internet vendors.Men, what is so exciting about a hardware and/or auto parts store?
It's just like a women in a shoe store or a clothing store. Us women are supposed to be crazy for shoes and men for tools and cars.
But this is one chick who is backwards, sort of. I work at Home Depot in the Hardware Department (AKA power tools). I love my tools and my shoes. So I guess I'm some kind of freak? Hey, maybe that's why they call me the "crazy old lady in the tools". :-)
The only store I like is the pet store. They pay me to work there and I'm amid fine company. I hate shopping. Everything is so over priced ... I go without or I am distraught when I buy it. Did I mention how I hate shopping? My hatred for shopping sure fattens my bank account. Besides, those stores you mention just make work for me.
I agree completely with what Mtzfire said. To be in the presence of all these tools to make our lives better/easier...it's a wonderful feeling!
In a way, it's like others here have said. It's sort of like women being in a clothing/shoe store (not stereotyping, just giving an analogy).
Like you said it is a man thing and when we go there we are looking for something, we just don't know what it is. Why do women drag men to watch them trying on clothes or shoes but gripe because we ask them to go to a parts store?
I asked my husband the same question. His answer was "I'm as thrilled to step through the door of a shoe store as you are when you step into a hardware/electronic/auto parts store. I get it.
My two favorite are Home Depot and Lowe's.I have not worked on a car in twenty years. I don't think i could find the dip stick on these new cars. I do injoy working with my hand's So in those two stores I'm happy
I'm every bit a woman but I love a hardware store myself. I could take one of everything in the store! Tools, yes, I'll have some. Paint, yes, I'll take some. Ah... heaven!
They get the same euphoria going into a hardware or auto parts store as we women get with going to the Mall or anywhere shopping. They just have different interests.
Out side of book stores hardware stores are my favorite places - there is a store called McGuckens in Boulder Colorado that's got some fabulous hardware - really stimulates your builder/fix-it imagination.
Guys like their PC's and cars like if they were their children, that's why we feel it's awesome to step inside a store filled with things to improve them and treat them well.
It's really that simple :)
Not only men. I far prefer The Home Depot to any shoe store. But I do prefer Hobby Lobby even more.

Hardware stores smell different. It's a guy thing. Something about leather and chains.
NAIL GUNS!!! That, and other power tools. Building things is fun, and they're the only stores mostly made for guys.
There is nothing better than shiny tools.
No women.
Cars are just badass. Hardware though I don't see the attraction.
it's like a woman who just walked in a shoe store right?
It's just a `Man Thing'.
Nuts! I swear!!!
Honestly I was never into those kind of things; I much prefer science. Try asking Tim Allen this; he'd know for sure!

If ytou had to divide all auto parts in to 10 categories what would they be?
I want them to be all inclusive for anything someone might buy at an auto parts store and easily navigable so that people can easily find any part they need. Is it legal? Yes. Will they hire a minor? You have to ask the store manager that question. Worse thing that could happen is they say no.alpinestars

I was banned from an auto parts store for stealing 2 years ago. How could I unban myself from that store?
2 years ago I stole something from an auto parts store. There was an undercover cop there who caught me. He walked me back inside the store and worked something out with the manager. I would pay for the merchandise (substantial increase) and they made a copy of my Drivers Liscense and I signed a statements saying If I were to return I would be arrested. Is there a way I could clear my name so that I could re-enter this store? This happened more then 2 years ago.I was banned from an auto parts store for stealing 2 years ago. How could I unban myself from that store?
Perhaps the only ways:
- Speak with or write the owners and see if they'll allow it, but you'd better have proof of turning your life around.
- Work out a deal where you call in orders and they'll take payment when you pick them up (while waiting outside).
Whatever they say, live with it. If it was me, I'd say no, I wouldn't want the business badly enough to risk getting ripped off again.
If I were the store owner, I have to say, I would probably never unban you.
Why not go and buy your auto parts at another store?I was banned from an auto parts store for stealing 2 years ago. How could I unban myself from that store?
I don't think so. This was a private deal the manager made with you.
You might go in and speak to the owners but they can do as they please.
Just be glad you didn't end up in jail!
talk to the store owner, thats the only wayI was banned from an auto parts store for stealing 2 years ago. How could I unban myself from that store?
Call the store manager. The document you signed is a civil document and generally not enforceable in criminal court. (the statue of limitations for petty theft has run out after 2 years).
Did the officer make you pay a substantial increase? (or did he participate in the event?) -- wow, if so, he was treading on thin ice. Generally Police Officers are not allowed to become involved in civil matters. Doing so could equal civil action against the officer. (seen it happen before). About the most he could have done is make the arrest
Getting back to your question. Call the store owner. Explain the situation. I doubt they remember you. Tell them you are sorry and wish to be a customer again.
Find another store you kleptomaniac, just don't visit mine!

Is it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?
and a repair shop buys a brand new one directly from a dealer and charges the customer about twice as much? If so, why?Is it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?
You can get brand new aftermarket brand or refurbished alternators for most vehicles from parts stores. Independent shops typically will use reman parts but may give you the option or you can request to go one way or the other. For some applications you may only be able to find new dealer-sources parts.
Independent shops do get a discount over retail whether buying from a parts store or dealer but the discounts are often small. What kind of markup the shop charges is dependent on the shop.
Most shops carry new and reman alternators at different pricesIs it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?
Yes, unless you specify you want a new one. Remans are just as good as new ones.
i bought an alternator from an auto parts store that was remanufactured. it turned out to be broken. so i had to go back and exchange for another remanufactured one. this one also turned out to be broken. the third time i finally got one that worked.
unless you specify new, it will be remanufactured. be careful. Is it true that an alternator bought at an auto parts store (e.g. Oreillys, Napa, ) is remanfactured?
Yes, most alternators from a parts store are remanufactured. Most repair shops don't buy from the dealer. Many times they get their parts from the same place you do.
It all depends on what you want, you can get a rebuilt or a brand new one depending on what you specify to the mechanic.

1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store & they checked code which said?
1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store %26amp; they checked code which said that my #3 cylinder wasn't firing but the code reader didn't specify why. I imagine Ill need to check the coil, fuel injector %26amp; wires... I dont know how to "check" the coil, though. Any info?1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store %26amp; they checked code which said?
It is time to change all the spark plugs and all the wires at the same time. If a distributor is fitted, then change that, too. Be safe, and not stranded.
Best wishes.
Dr Antony
It's most likely a bad coil, fords get them all the time. Look up how to do the saltwater test, good home mechanic test.
It could also be a bad plug or wire or something a lot more severe, like no compression in that cylinder, that could be about half a dozen things by itself.1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store %26amp; they checked code which said?
The coil is working fine. Or all cylinders would not be firing. Check the spark plug wire it could be the problem or the spark plug. Also if it is fuel injected you could have a fouled injector.
Whoever gave dwayne a thumbs down was wrong. He is correct for the most part.
i guess to check the could you could pull the plug off the #3 cylinder see if it has spark. to do this see if the plug jumps to ground1999 Mercury Grand Marquis Check Engine light came on. Went to auto parts store %26amp; they checked code which said?
a cylinder mis fire is caused by a bad plug or plug wire do a good tune up on it. that should fix it.

Does anyone know if there is any auto parts store that offers this still? Come to think of it, when was the last time anyone had one of these done? It probably depends on the location and the store. I suspect they stopped offering the service because they were sick of customer complaints about selling parts that did't fix the problem. Code reading rarely, if ever tells you what is really wrong. That's why its free, you get exactly what you pay for.
In my area, Autozone still does them for free. I had a code pulled just 2 weeks ago.As of now are there any major chains of Auto stores that do OBD-II code readings?
I had it done at Autozone not too long ago.
OBD-II codes are simple to read and cost the company very little. I'd call the corporate office on whoever the lazy person is who told you this.As of now are there any major chains of Auto stores that do OBD-II code readings?

Are there any auto part stores that sell BMW batteries?
You'd have to go to a BMW dealer for a BMW battery, but the good news is you can find a good replacement for it at any auto parts store, much cheaper and just as good. Are there any auto part stores that sell BMW batteries?
The best batteries made are optima brand. They look unlike other batteries, since they look like six separate round batteries enclosed in a plastic case. They offer the best performance and durability. BMW does not make their own brand name batteries, so I reccomend the Optima. Are there any auto part stores that sell BMW batteries?
I doubt BMW make their own batteries.
Most garages will supply one to fit.

I need help on deciding what item I need to purchase at an auto-parts store.?
The turn signals on my '97 Cavalier are malfunctioning. When I operate either the left or the right, the clicking and flashing will periodically stop and then sometimes restart again. I'm (guessing) that I may need fuses or flashers but I would really like to lessen my chances of looking like a complete fool upon entering an auto-parts store. I would really appreciate any helpful advice.------thankyou.I need help on deciding what item I need to purchase at an auto-parts store.?
sounds like the flasher, looks like this http://www.trustmymechanic.com/parts_gal鈥?/a> find it and unplug it and take it to the store to get a new one, you could get the new one 1st but you got to find and take out the old one anyway, might as well do that 1st and then you can show it to them, I say "find it" because they are located under the dash in all sorts of places, depending on the car, slide your seat back and get in it with your head in the position your feet would usually be, then with the key on, hit the turn signal switch and LISTEN for the clicking noise to locate it, it simply unplugs, the hazard light switch has a flasher too, it could be the same one or it could be a different one. If you don't care to stand on your head in your car, why not just get one of the dumb sap guys at the auto parts store to do it for you by acting helpless and batting those beautiful hazel eyes at him? (dumb sap guy here)
thanks for giving me best answer, but I see you are still in trouble, send me an E-mail and I'll help you out. Incel1@yahoo.com
buy a flasher
Fuses either work or don't...none of that on and off again stuff. I am guessing that you may need a new turn signal switch as the contacts may have gotten eroded. This is usually a job for a shop. Ask the guy at the counter whether he thinks it might be the flasher unit.I need help on deciding what item I need to purchase at an auto-parts store.?
being a female too many auto places around here are really helpful and try to help out and sell some of there products so if it was me I would go in and ask them what they think and they can go out to your car and look and maybe hook up some kind of devise to actually figure it out for you also a speed lube place that changes oil can help a lot too....
you need a turn signal switch.
i agree with the others ask autozone to check it out , but if the turn signals are on walk outside of your car and see if the bulbs are working first left then right then look when you put the back ones on.. then the emergency flashers if you hear a clicking sound and no flasher lights on the dash..then your bulb in the dash is out or a ground!! locate your fuse box and test all fusses best to check with a multimeter that cost about ten dollars at wallmart!! you'll need it in the future!! if you can catch me on line i can walk you through it!! I fix anything when it can't be fixed!! even when the parts house say it can't be fixed!!!good luck!!

What happened to the auto parts store called Autowize?
They probably got wise and realised that the Auto parts industry isn't what it used to be. With the introduction of the big auto parts chains and the bargain el'cheapo stores popping up everywhere, the individual Auto parts stores have gone like so many other single traders. They cant compete so the smart ones sell up and get out early and the not so smart hold on and go bust.
Ever leave a deposit for auto parts that a auto store manager boasted that he'd get you superior parts then at?
Then states after 5 business days that he's been in auto parts 19 plus years and they dont make a better part ? Then when you state that you buy this very same belt @ his competitor, he gets pissed off and irate ? Now why didn't he know this before hand ? " Ive been in the auto parts business 19 + yrs".Ever leave a deposit for auto parts that a auto store manager boasted that he'd get you superior parts then at?
Yeah, been there. I hate when that happens.
.Ever leave a deposit for auto parts that a auto store manager boasted that he'd get you superior parts then at?
No, I've never left a deposit. At the moment I have an open account, and don't need to. Before that I only paid upon getting whatever part I needed.
And I really don't understand what you are asking. If you have manager that isn't giving you decent service, go somewhere else. Problem solved.Ever leave a deposit for auto parts that a auto store manager boasted that he'd get you superior parts then at?
No, dont know what you are talking about and hence that has never happened to me.
Obviously your "question" doesn't make much sense...have you ever "bought" any auto parts???

Which auto parts store sells car charger cable's fuse?

I heard that a major auto parts store is now offering to pull the codes for you when your check engine light c?
Is it auto zone, advance, orielly,??I heard that a major auto parts store is now offering to pull the codes for you when your check engine light c?
I believe all of those parts stores will do that but having a guy that sells parts and doesn't fix cars read your codes is a very bad Idea. For example, lets say you took your car to the local discount parts store and had the free code reader plugged in to find out your car has a code P0171 oxygen sensor detects a lean condition. If you want an oxygen sensor they will sell you one. But remember that is not what the trouble code said to do, it only says that a lean condition has been detected by that sensor. If someone replaced the oxygen sensor and the car had a weak fuel pump or a dirty fuel filter causing not enough fuel or maybe a vacuum leak causing to much air to enter the engine or any number of other things that could cause the engine to run lean, then the light would come right back on for the exact same reason meaning the oxygen sensor did it's job and reported the lean condition, but most people would think that the new sensor was bad or someone just doesn鈥檛 know what they are doing or worse maybe even believe they got ripped off. There is no such thing as a machine or a trouble code that tells you a part is bad or to replace a part. Trouble codes report engine conditions that are reported by sensors and the part stores are using it as a get rich quick scam. Remember that the money you save by doing it yourself will come in handy when you need it done right.
In true reality the dealer of your car has the best diagnostic equipment to solve specific codes on your on-board computer.
We had a lady who replaced her gas cap which she purchased from Auto Zone. That's what their inexpensive code reader said was was wrong. As it turned out, she had a seam leak in her gas tank. Auto Zone wouldn't return her money for the $40.00 gas tank cap even though they advised her it caused the problem.
Multi-testers which include volt meters can test batteries, alternators and starters. Anybody including you can purchase an inexpensive volt meter from Sears, Home Depot, Lowes, Radio Shack, hardware stores and electronics supply stores.I heard that a major auto parts store is now offering to pull the codes for you when your check engine light c?
Also Pep Boys will do it, You just tell them your light is on and they will check the code while you wait, usually only takes a couple of minutes.
They will tell you what the code is and you can make up your own mind as to how to go about fixing it.
If you fix your problem yourself you can go back and have it reset so the light goes off.
Or you could buy a simple code reader for about $20 and do it yourself. Like the first guy said, even if you know what the code is, that doesn't mean you know what is wrong with the vehicle.I heard that a major auto parts store is now offering to pull the codes for you when your check engine light c?
auto zone does if its i believe 1992 or newer

If you fix your problem yourself you can go back and have it reset so the light goes off.
Or you could buy a simple code reader for about $20 and do it yourself. Like the first guy said, even if you know what the code is, that doesn't mean you know what is wrong with the vehicle.I heard that a major auto parts store is now offering to pull the codes for you when your check engine light c?
auto zone does if its i believe 1992 or newer

Other than going to a auto parts store, where can I find a free fuel/air filter compatibility chart?
I purchased a Deutsch FF508 fuel filter a while ago. Now I am having second thoughts as to if it is compatible with a 2001 Chevy Cavalier. Where can I find a free chart that shows if it will do or not?Other than going to a auto parts store, where can I find a free fuel/air filter compatibility chart?
You dont need a chart, that part number is pretty common. Call autozone and ask them for a price for a fuel filter for your cavalier. Then when they give you the price, tell them you have a fuel filter that is new and you are pretty sure that its for your car and give them the part number, they should be able to tell you if that's correct. Also they can cross over your part number to theirs to confirm.
Autozone web site.Other than going to a auto parts store, where can I find a free fuel/air filter compatibility chart?
Most major filter manufactures websites now have an area which will interchange your part # and give you their replacement part #. Write the number down and then look up your car in the application section and see if the number matches. Go to a NAPA store or Carquest store. They handle more types of vehicles than Autozone will ever handle.
And their parts people are better (knowledgable).

Can an auto parts store tell whether there is something wrong with your alternator or whether there is a short?
somewhere just by attaching a meter to your battery and having you start the car?Can an auto parts store tell whether there is something wrong with your alternator or whether there is a short?
should be able to and i think that they do it for free also
The only real way to test an alternator is to remove it and bring it to the auto parts store. Nearly any of the major auto parts stores will test your alternator for free.
They have a test stand they can install it on. They will spin the alternator to speed and the test stand can run diagnostic tests on the alternator.
They can test it with and without a load to see how it responds.
There is a simpler but less accurate test you can do at home. You will need a digital volt meter.
Set the volt meter to the 24 volt DC range.
Place the positive and negative leads of the volt meter to the matching battery terminals. The meter should read around 12 volts with the ignition in the off position.
Start the engine. The meter should read between 14.5 volts and 16.5 volts. Turn on a couple of accessories like the head lights and the radio. The readings should stay about the same. If the meter reads above or below these readings you have a problem with the alternator.
If the alternator fails this simple at home test the next step is to bring it to the auto parts store for further testing. Can an auto parts store tell whether there is something wrong with your alternator or whether there is a short?
They are not by rule good technicians, but some times they can tell only if the alternator is working to some extension, that's all, I do not see how they can detect a short only using a charging system tester.
no if there is a fault on the alternator will show up as a short curcit anyway so no the test meter will not tell you if its a fault or a shortCan an auto parts store tell whether there is something wrong with your alternator or whether there is a short?

Why do men treat women like we are idiots when we are in an auto parts store?
I am the one who works on the cars here, my husband doesn't know a thing about cars and how they work. Why do men treat women like we are idiots when we are in an auto parts store?
it's because the person behind the counter is stupid, doesn't realize how smart a person is, because they can't see past their nose
I feel for you. it is awesome that you work on cars.
Maybe the guys aren't thinking your dumb. maybe they can't help themselves when a girl, or lady walks in. Guys are often programmed from the get-go to come to our rescue. They are geared towards fixing problems for us if they have the capabilty. I bet the guy who made you feel this way wanted to feel good about himself and apply his knowledge, and didn't even think that he may be over stepping boundaries.
Now, if he treats you disrespectively, or talks down to yu, let him have it with all the stength you can muster up and put him in his place with words. Why do men treat women like we are idiots when we are in an auto parts store?
Probably becuz of women like me! I know how to start my car and I know where the windex stuff goes and thats it! My hubby had me out trying to put in transmission fluid in his 5 speed truck for a good 20 minutes before I realized he was laughing at me CUZ there is none in a 5 speed! Plus one afternoon my car stalled in the middle of a busy intersection- and i could not get it started again. I was in tears cuz everyone was beeping and yelling- well finally a guy came to help and he starts laughing his butt off- I DID NOT know I had to put it back in park to restart it! SOOOOOOO its cuz of women like me! Im sorry- accept my stupidity for all women kind!
Look at the type of guys who work in auto parts places. Not the sharpest or the brightest. Don't give it any mind. Just get what you have to get and go. No need spending more time in there than you have to.Why do men treat women like we are idiots when we are in an auto parts store?
Same reason women treat men differently when we're in Victoria Secrets.
It is an area we are not normally familiar with.
Women are not normally knowledgeable about cars, same goes with men. We are not normally familiar with, cooking, decorating, etc.
That is no reason to treat someone like an idiot.
Some women know more about cars, planes, etc. then men do and some men know more about womens fashion, cooking, decorating than women. But were talking outside the norm here.
But we all had better get used to it, eh?
I will give you my answer but you may not like it so here goes. Men think that women should be kept bare foot, pregnant, stay home with kids, cook, clean,do the laundry and wait on them hand an foot. Man don't want to have to say out loud or to any body she is SMARTER then me.(The TRUTH HURTS.)
It takes most WOMEN a while to figure out something is wrong with a car. They will drive maybe 50 miles before THEY figure out something is wrong so you don't see THEM often. You see us MEN not often too because we check our cars alot so the car is in shape.

Can I buy the argent silver for the Mopar Rally Rim at the auto parts store?
I got some Wheel Vintiques Mopar Ralley Wheels and they are not the correct color when they were sent from the factory. I plan on using spray primer and spray paint to coat the rims. Any advice is welcome. ThanksCan I buy the argent silver for the Mopar Rally Rim at the auto parts store?
I seriously doubt you can get the paint from your local auto parts store. Try Eastwood, Yearone, or any number of the Mopar restoration businesses. You might be able to get it from your local Chrysler dealer as well. Can I buy the argent silver for the Mopar Rally Rim at the auto parts store?
Not likely to get it in a local parts store or at the dealer. That's mostly an aftermarket paint these days. If a dealer has it, it's because they market to the restoration hobby. Most don't however. Eastwood and Year One were good suggestions. There are several other sources.
Try a google search or buy Mopar Muscle or some other such magazine and look through the ads.

Can you buy spark plugs for a seadoo at a auto parts store?
We bought plugs for our PWC at Pepboys and now it's running kind of rough. Can you buy spark plugs for a seadoo at a auto parts store?
Its best to run a good brand name plug in your PWC. I would suggest either NGK or Bosh spark plugs. Make sure you run the proper type plug according to your owners manual. If you do not have a owners manual most parts stores can look it up for you.
Some other things to try is add some gas additive to it called Sea Foam. About an ounce or two per gallon of gas.Can you buy spark plugs for a seadoo at a auto parts store?
As long as you buy the proper plug, meaning the number of the plug is the exact number as the one you took out, or the one described in the owners manual AND you gap it properly, it matters not where you purchase it.
Did you gap the plug before you installed it? If you didn't you need to. Too close a gap will make starting easier in some cases, but will make it run rough at higher speeds. Too wide a gap will make for hard starting and bad idling. Read the owners manual for the proper gap. If you don't have a tool to gap the plugs, ask someone to gap them for you or buy a gap tool. They only cost a few dollars and last a lifetime! Gapping is simple. Simply spread or close the electrode toward the plug tip until the proper gap is reached. Be careful not to bend the electrode back and forth too much or it may break, or be weakened so much it will fail and fall in the cylinder.
Good luck and safe boating!

How well does the stuff you buy in a bottle at auto parts stores to stop oil leaks in your engine work?
how do they work? and do they damage your engine at all?
which brand or brands is best and how often do you need to keep pouring it in your engine and why, how depends? How well does the stuff you buy in a bottle at auto parts stores to stop oil leaks in your engine work?
Fix the leak, magic in can is not going to help you. Even if the leak stops this crap will cause so many other issues there's to many to list.
1) identify the leak, Get some motor gunk and clean the engine, once the engine is clean this will make finding the leak easy.
2) Once identified determine if this is something easy you can do like a valve cover gasket or will require a mechanic.
3) take appropriate measures once step two is determined.
4) NEVER PUT ANYTHING IN THE CRANKCASE BUT OIL!How well does the stuff you buy in a bottle at auto parts stores to stop oil leaks in your engine work?
What car is it and I bet we can tell u exactly whats needed!
A quart is quite a bit to lose and as has been said, a stop leak is not going to work.
Front centre could be as little as a seal around a pressure switch through to Crank or Cam seal all depending on how engine lies in vehicle!
Added!
There are only a few places the oil can spill out from the front:
Could be cam cver gasket, sump seal or the dreaded cam or crank seals. The rest of the front of this engine is just water points.
If you remove upper timing cover you can eliminate cam seals, if they are clean then it points to crank seal!
It is not as scary a job as you think and if your timing belt is due, you can do all at same time! How well does the stuff you buy in a bottle at auto parts stores to stop oil leaks in your engine work?
i used that stuff before and it did not damage the engine any but it did not stop the leak either. if it,s leaking pretty bad then it must be a seal. as long as it,s leaking that bad i would buy the cheap oil at the dollar store. if it,s a seal then the only way around that is change the seal.
The stop leak stuff I used was for the engine's piston rings/head. You can try it it won't hurt your car. Just get an oil change after about 500 miles or 2 weeks.towing

I can't afford the Headlight Restoration Kit from the Auto Parts store...is there something else?
I have a 98 Corolla with very foggy plastic headlights that need cleaned. Is there a product around the house that can also remove the fogginess from Plastic Headlights? I have used that Headlight Restoration Kit from the auto parts store but unlike it states on the silver bag, it is not permanent.I can't afford the Headlight Restoration Kit from the Auto Parts store...is there something else?
YES... Meguiars PlasticX is a great plastic oxidation remover which is Cheap and has some good results for removing the fading of headlights..I bought mine from the automotive section at walmart for 6-7 bucks. It helps to restore the headlights. You can use apply this a few times and buff off with a microfiber cloth with some elbow grease a few times and see some serious improvement. you can also get the mothers buffing ball also available at walmart that attaches to a drill and buff out more serious scratches with this liquid...it has a mild abrasive that breaks down soon after applying so avoid your car paint... Good luck!
See below for what the product is and how it works:
http://www.epinions.com/review/Meguiar_s鈥?/a>
Brasson brass cleaner works great %26amp; is cheap, you can buy at walmart.
There is no home remedy that is truely safe and effective to use on plastic headlights to remove ( fogginess ) oxidation. Headlight kits at auto parts stores are basicly the same abrasive concept and you're correct in your analysis that they do not last. They can't.
Oxidation is a natural reoccurring event.
The commonly used abrasive method to remove oxidation causes permanent surface damage by removing the protective U.V. layer which leads clouding and eventually yellowing of the headlight lens surface.
They may look O.K for a month or to but the problem will return 10 fold.
There is a product that will remove the oxidation safely without risk of damage to the protective UV layer on your lens.
It is an Acrylic lens deoxidizer. It only removes oxidation and leaves the headlight U.V. layer intact.
It will last for a year or more depending on the environment you operate your vehicle in.
Unfortunately it cannot repair damage caused by common abrasive polishes and sandpaper kits.
An undamaged lens can be restored to a like new appearence and there is enough product to last the life of your car.
PITTMAN ORIGINAL ALR APC 360ID is the only product on the market that is designed to remove just the oxidation, It is pure liquid reacts in seconds and requires no tools.
You can find it online.
Since you have already used a low tech abrasive auto store kit previously, You may have to resurface your entire lens and that too will only last a short time.
All of those sandpaper kits will ruin your headlights, no matter what they cost, that may be why they are foggy now.
Sanding and buffing a transparent lens is risky and time consuming.
It destroys the Ultra Violet membrane and will cause the headlight to turn yellow. That stuff in that silver bag won't help in fact it will only make it worse. For plastic lens stay away from anything that uses abrasives.
You need a liquid acrylic deoxidizer.
It won't scratch or cause you lens to turn foggy.I can't afford the Headlight Restoration Kit from the Auto Parts store...is there something else?
You should given more thought to it before using sandpaper kits. Thats a temporary fix that causes more damage to the lens and once your lens is scratched up it cannot be fixed without some serious resurfacing using power tools and multiple grades of polish.
Sanding and buffing plastic headlights is counter productive.
The easiest way to fix foggy headlights is to use a liquid deoxidizer.
yes is a product coll AWESOME you can buy for $0.99 in most 99 stores or you can use find sand paper and water sand with water then after you Finis use wax and waxed or you just can use wax it work good or Polish
i would replace then with used ones from the junkyard

I dispose my used motor oil at a local auto parts store. What do they do with the used oil?
And..... what are some uses of old oil?I dispose my used motor oil at a local auto parts store. What do they do with the used oil?
Oil doesn't wear out it only gets dirty. The company that supplies the holding tank you pour your used oil into picks up the used oil and takes it to a facility that re-refines the used oil into a usable oil product again, or that is what we are lead to believe.
The truer facts of recycling oil follow closer to these numbers:
Proper Legal Disposal 33%
Recycled into other products 18%
Burned as Fuel 46%
Recycled into Motor Oil 1%
Lost in Processing 2%

There are furnaces than can burn this old oil. I bet that they are heating their building with your oil. (this is good recycling)I dispose my used motor oil at a local auto parts store. What do they do with the used oil?
I know 2 service stations that heat their buildings with it, they have a oil burning furnace and what they don't need for themselves they sell the oil to other people for a dollar a gallon.
they sell it to recycling companyI dispose my used motor oil at a local auto parts store. What do they do with the used oil?
it gets recycled back into oil.
they sell it for use in a oil furnace, or to get recycled. 75% of the oil you see on the shelf in a store (many name brands) is recycled oil.

Why cant the auto parts store tell me why my check engine light is on?
I have a 2000 dodge avenger i cant get it inspected because the check engine light is one, auto zone does free diagonstics
for check engine light and the tech said that his computer wont
interface with my car. there for the check engine light is stuck on
any ideas???Why cant the auto parts store tell me why my check engine light is on?
Chrysler Products have known issues with the communication link at the diagnostic plug. Take the car to the dealer and see if they can repair it for you under the emissions warranty if there is any left. If it has expired with mileage or time, then you will have to pay either the dealer or a QUALITY repair facility to correct the "No Communication" issue, run the proper diagnostics and make the required repairs, turn the light out, and THEN perform the emissions test.
1. check the gas cap (yes it can cause that little light to stay on)
2. check the oil
3. disconnect the battery/ reconnect and see if it stays on
4. reset the computer via console controlsWhy cant the auto parts store tell me why my check engine light is on?
Because their not mechanics! Take it to an actual emchanic that actually knows what to do under the hood.
most auto parts stores only do oil changes , tires , and things like that . your best bet is to go to a real certified mechanic and im sure he will be able to figure out whats wrong with it .Why cant the auto parts store tell me why my check engine light is on?
All cars made from 1996 and up have OBD 2 diagnostic interface. Which is a standard that all current diagnostic tools should support. It doesnt make sense why they can't do it.
disconnect the battery for 30 minutes then reconnect it if the light is still on go to another auto parts store
The guy you talked to is confused. Get another guy or go to another autozone. He may not be able to tell you what to fix, but he can give you the codes and you can check them on line in any dodge forum.
Only other possibility is that your OBDII interface is messed up.
The avenger is a breed of its own. Yes check the gas cap 1st and disconnect the battery cable and if that dont take care of it you will probably have to take it to the dealer.
either go to another auto zone or a reliable repair shop
First off, Autozone doesn't do "free diagnostics", they do free "code reading" which is next to useless. And that is why it is free. The fact that they can't interface with your computer could mean 2 things:
1. You are getting what you are paying for (nothing) because the cheap $80 readers they use aren't worth a hoot compared to the $6,000 tool a real mechanic would use or...
2. You may have found the problem - a bad PCM.
Either way, its time to pay someone to really find out what the problem is.

Will auto parts store carry throttal cable that will fit bikes?
the throttal cable snapped as i was leaving work tonight...will an auto parts store carry what i need or do i have to order a something specialWill auto parts store carry throttal cable that will fit bikes?
Not likely, but pep boys does sell a universal one for the bikes and scooters they sell. Will auto parts store carry throttal cable that will fit bikes?
this is not an auto part, your best bet is going to be a motorcycle dealership parts department, and you may have to order it. if the ball snapped off the end, sometimes if you are careful you can use a small vise grips and clip the end to the rotating part outside the bars, (just be careful not to squeeze it out of round. I have tied a round homemade grip from like electrical tape and an old broom stick, and ran the cable up the middle of the handlebars, and pulled on it with one hand, while operating the clutch with the other, its not pretty, but it will get you home, and once the bike is at cruising speed you can go nice and easyWill auto parts store carry throttal cable that will fit bikes?

Why do auto parts stores sell "Bleeding kits" for bleeding a clutch system..when can just gravity bleed it?
what they are really for and how useful really?
what about just undoing the screw that holds the clutch fluid and letting it drain out by pumping the clutch pettle YOUR SELF? why need another person? as have heard you can just undo the screw of bleeder valve and place a pan underneath and just get in the vehicle yourself and press the clutch peddle a few times and just go and watch the master cylander to make sure still have at least some fluid left before getting under the vehicle again and closing the valve.
is this also a sure way to get th air bubble out?Why do auto parts stores sell "Bleeding kits" for bleeding a clutch system..when can just gravity bleed it?
The reason is ... MOST new clutches need to be BLEED not drained. They are a pressure system working off of the same system as the brakes, They use a hydraulic cyl to push the clutch arm (actuation arm). This requires a bleed point downstream or after the clutch slave cylinder.
I don't know where you got this info but it sounds like a VERY poor way to save a few bucks when your life or others safety could be at risk by a short cut. Now I do not know the vehicles make model and year. This would help a lot. Usually someone listing that info would be a bit more adept in car knowledge , but thats what mechanics are here for right?
Without any knowledge of the car your working on, can't help you. But i sure need a clutch bleeding kit for almost all modern cars (5 years)
You'd better hire someone to properly bleed the clutch in your car cause you don't have the hang of ir just yet! If you do it your way air will be sucked back into the system every time the clutch petal is released. It's better to pressure bleed the system from the bottom up.
I'd hate to be responsible if you decided to bleed your own brakes! Why do auto parts stores sell "Bleeding kits" for bleeding a clutch system..when can just gravity bleed it?
If you just loosen the bleed screw and pump the clutch in, it will suck air in as you release the pedal. That's why you need two people. A clutch bleed kit is a vacuum used to pull fluid from the master to the slave. Gravity might work, but takes time and may not push all air bubbles out.
Ditto what Pancake said! You can do this with one person and no kit but you need something to hold the clutch pedal in the floor while you get out and close the bleed valve to keep air from being sucked back in.Why do auto parts stores sell "Bleeding kits" for bleeding a clutch system..when can just gravity bleed it?
Why do they sell the kits? Because of misinformed people like you! They way you are doing does NOT work. Get somebody that knows what they are doing to help you or better yet take your car to a shop %26amp; have them do it.
if you crack the screw and try to gravity bleed it it will work ecxept for the little air pocket that gets trapped in the slave cylinder. If you crack the screw and press the peddle, what happens is if forces the fluid down to the cylinder, and out the opening along with the air, the problem is when you release the peddle, the air gets sucked right back in, so unless you have some one there to open and close the screw every time you pump the peddle, you will effectivly get nowhere. That is why thee are kits, so one person can do it them selves with out too much trouble.
when you press the clutch fluid will go out the bleeder. when you release the pedal air will be sucked back in
A bleeder kit? you mean a piece of clear hose and a paper cup? that's all you need. Fill the cup up with brake fluid, open the bleeder valve, push the hose over it, and submerge the other end in the brake fluid. pump the clutch until no more air bubbles can be seen in the hose while pumping tighten the valve, remove the hose, dump the remaining fluid from the cup, crush the cup and throw it away so no-one thinks it's sprite.
the 2 man method involves pumping up the clutch, hold it to the floor, have your partner open and close the bleeder valve (do not release the pedal while the valve is open), and repeat till no more air comes out.

Is there any after market auto part stores that sell the Electronic fuel control system computer for the dodge?
this afternoon i went to the only auto parts store in town and they said no you'd have to go to the dealer but the dealer said no they don't have stuff that old has anyone else had this problem with there 80's chrysler products the car is an 84 dodge diplomat police carIs there any after market auto part stores that sell the Electronic fuel control system computer for the dodge?
We Run into this all the time. Call the Auto Wrecker and ask them to put a call out on that part and see what comes up. If that doesn't work there are some people out there that fix the computer and make it better than factory. Is there any after market auto part stores that sell the Electronic fuel control system computer for the dodge?
If you have much time, remove the computer and take it to computer technician to do analyze. Ask to analyze each components, most cause of computer failure is a broken component. Ask to replace the component, it's a lot cheaper then buy a new one. Basicly, it's similar between car and home computer, it only being difference by it's socket and program inside. Car computer doesn't use harddisc to save any program, and most problem is with the blown component. Other way, have a look at piggyback computer, it's programmable to have better engine run by manipulating sensor reading to reach engine maximum capability.

Could the alternator test bench at an auto parts store be wrong?
The new alternator tests good at the store, but when it's in my car, it doesn't function properly. The battery light is on and its draining the battery. Could the test be inaccurate?Could the alternator test bench at an auto parts store be wrong?
not likely.you don't mention make, model, voltage regulator, grounding problem etc,,, is the amperage of the battery enough for your car! however i would say discharge problem,ie.alternator/regulater! i bet it's the latter!Could the alternator test bench at an auto parts store be wrong?
try disconnecting the battery while the car is running( both pos and neg) if it keeps running your alt is probably good if it dies immediatly you probably have alt issues...old school way of testing alts
good luck!Could the alternator test bench at an auto parts store be wrong?
no prolly not wrong...make sure ur belt is tight enoph...and make sure u got ur wires where there suppose to be...maybe there's a short in the wires that go to the alternator from the battery...
Could the test be inaccurate?
At a store, definitely.
Is that a safe way of testing it?
NO!
could that damage something?
YES!
Unless your car is 50 years old, and doesn't have any solid state circuitry.gas mileage calculator

Is the auto parts store liable for my car?
I bought spark plugs for my car and now my car doesn't run and the garage says that the motor is blow-ed up. But the plugs that I got from the store were the wrong ones.Is the auto parts store liable for my car?
I'd guess there was something wrong when you decided to work on it in the first place. Where the heck do you get off trying to blame someone else? Did you compare the plugs before putting them in? It is remotely possible that the new plugs caused the problem. But don't you think the person installing the plugs has any responibility to match them up?
%26gt;%26gt; But the plugs that I got from the store were the wrong ones.
Sorry. No spark plug would cause that. If your engine failed (blew up), then it was because it was old / poorly maintained.
===
%26gt;%26gt; and the garage says that the motor is blow-ed up.
If your engine "blew up" you would know it. You don't need a mechanic to tell you this. I suspect your problem is NOT that bad. I would get a second opinion.
good luck...Is the auto parts store liable for my car?
i don't think it was the plugs. there is more to this story. don't think they are liable.
did you compare the new plugs to the old ones? Who put them in? that person is responsible for at least the plugs, but I agree even if the plugs sere too long it usually would not cause it to blowed upIs the auto parts store liable for my car?
well if you got the wrong spark plugs you could have cracked the pistons if they were to long but if that was the case you would have heard the from the start.
The plugs shouldn't have threaded if they were the wrong ones, sometimes even the right spark plug (but a poor brand) wont even thread. I would go do a different mechanic, if it ran before the "bad" spark plugs, it should run after you replace them with the right ones, but you may have other problems lesser the your engine being blown up.
i think whoever checked it lied to you

did you compare the new plugs to the old ones? Who put them in? that person is responsible for at least the plugs, but I agree even if the plugs sere too long it usually would not cause it to blowed upIs the auto parts store liable for my car?
well if you got the wrong spark plugs you could have cracked the pistons if they were to long but if that was the case you would have heard the from the start.
The plugs shouldn't have threaded if they were the wrong ones, sometimes even the right spark plug (but a poor brand) wont even thread. I would go do a different mechanic, if it ran before the "bad" spark plugs, it should run after you replace them with the right ones, but you may have other problems lesser the your engine being blown up.
i think whoever checked it lied to you
If I regularly accompany my boyfriend to sporting goods stores, hardware stores and auto parts stores?
If I regularly (on every single weekend) accompany my boyfriend to sporting goods stores, hardware stores and auto parts stores without a single objection and stays at those stores with him for as long as he wishes (sometimes up to four hours), wouldn't it be fair that he should also learn to take me out clothes shopping without complaints, especially if I am spending my own money and not touching a cent of his? All I ask for is a little bit of his time, is that too much?If I regularly accompany my boyfriend to sporting goods stores, hardware stores and auto parts stores?
You're thinking about this the wrong way in my opinion.
Yes, you should spend time together - but you need to find things you BOTH like to do. That is what you do with your "together" time.
And it's also healthy for couples to have some time to go do things individually or with friends.
I suggest skipping the auto parts store and go shopping instead. Then meet up afterwards for a lovely evening together. :-)
That depends.
Is he asking you to come with him? If you are simply following without his request, you can't really expect him to return the favor because he did not ask anything of you. If you are following him around without him asking you, it is implied you are doing so because you want to. Therefore, he is not obligated to do anything in return.
However, if he is asking you to come along, he should go with you too. In that case, he is asking something of you. It is only fair that an action be repaid. That payment would be him going with you when you go out shopping and what not.
Note: Your boyfriend may not want you to go with him to those places. Many guys use time at the hardware store, autoparts store and so on as "me time" and a chance to hang out with other guys.If I regularly accompany my boyfriend to sporting goods stores, hardware stores and auto parts stores?
Is he requesting your presence on these expeditions? The reason why I ask is because males tend to be different than females when it comes to shopping. Males tend to more inclined to shop alone, and he may not necessarily require that you be there...On the other hand, females tend to like someone to accompany them. It's not that he doesn't want you there, he just doesn't need you there, and therefore may not understand why he needs to be there when you shop.
Well, if you went to the movies every weekend, it wouldn't be fair for him to always pick the movie no matter how much he always paid for the tickets. Have you considered wandering off to another part of the store and snagging the attention of a male clerk? Finding you talking and laughing with a guy helping you find shoes, decorative light bulbs, or cute air fresheners might alert your BF that he needs to keep the home fires burning or you will find yourself a better log.If I regularly accompany my boyfriend to sporting goods stores, hardware stores and auto parts stores?
Yes, do yourself a favor and never drag your man to the mall. He will make it so miserable for you. Even when they decide to sit and wait for you out in the mall you still know they are there and you have to rush and feel like you can't relax and enjoy yourself because they are either hovering over you or tapping their foot waiting for you. I learned a long time ago it's easier on everyone if you just leave them home when you want to go clothes shopping.
Hi,
It sounds like you and him and spreading ends, but remember you dont have to go to those stores. What if you told him i will go to your stores is long as you go to my stores. We will make the time even by however much you spend at your stores i will spend with you at my stores. I hope i made since to you and didnt just sound like gibberish.
I hope this helped you and i hope it works out for you. I do agree though he should spend time with you.
~God Bless~
yea thats kinda rude of him, id say dont go with him, or make him a deal if you go with him then after you leave there he has to go with you with no problems.
What's fair for one is fair for two.Next time you go do your shopping while he does his and get together after.
If you are REGULARLY going with him to stores... you might give him a break and go clothes shopping alone or with gf's

Do most auto parts stores and mechanics all talk to each other throughout the day & do they copy acting styles?
have spent half of yesterday and half of today calling around trying to get different auto parts stores to explain to me about using an air bubble vacuum on my clutch line and trying to determine if it is a simple air bubble in the clutch line OR parts to the clutch system..throw out bearing, clutch plates , etc..and have spoken to "sales representatives" for service in dealerships..and many , many mechanics , auto parts store clerks..and THEY ALL TALK, SOUND THE SAME NEARLY..LOL..It is almost like there 3-4 different acting roles of people that i talked to out of maybe 50 or 60 people..and i dont know why this is..but many act so arrogant ..and almost like you are a stupid professional..kind of person and they act like the "good ole boy" mechanic that etc..and it is really made me depressed after talking so many times to mechanics that want to skip the clutch line having an air bubble possibility and move onto the idea of a "throw out bearing" or "clutch plates"..etc..and was curious..are most just wanting to skip the idea of the simple clutch bleed and go to the 600-1500 dollar range? ..why they do this and do they not feel guilty at not wanting to true help out someone ?Do most auto parts stores and mechanics all talk to each other throughout the day %26amp; do they copy acting styles?
There are two things here.
You are asking professionals to give you free time when they could be using that time to make money. They are not at all interested in spending long periods sorting out your problems over the telephone when they have nothing to gain from it.
In any case, they can't possibly know what is wrong with your vehicle over the 'phone - all they can do is give you some ideas.
The "sound alike" comes from the fact that all industries and jobs have their own jargon, and people within an industry will share patterns of thought and speech.

Why do auto parts stores always try to sell you stuff you don't need?
Then they say you need something you dont. Why do auto parts stores always try to sell you stuff you don't need?
I don't have that problem.First, I make it a point to try to get to know the folks working at the Parts Store. The vast majority don't make a commission on what they sell. They honestly want you to have what you need to complete the job. They don't want you to have to make an extra trip back to the parts store, right in the middle of a job. They're paid by the Hour, not by how much they sell.Second, I try to have a Haynes Repair Manual for whatever I'm working on, so I know exactly what I need. For the most part, they really don't want to rip you off, because if enough people feel that they've been screwed over, they'll take their business elsewhere. Why do auto parts stores always try to sell you stuff you don't need?
Never happens to me. I tell them what I require, and if they ask, I say no.
